Govortsova beats Senoglu in Istanbul Cup

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) -Olga Govortsova of Belarus beat Ipek Senoglu 6-3, 6-2 Monday in the first round of the Istanbul Cup.

The fourth-seeded Govortsova will play Nathalie Vierin of Italy in the second round of the clay-court tournament. Vierin beat Anastasia Rodionova of Russia 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Akiko Morigami of Japan retired while trailing Aiko Nakamura 3-6, 7-6 (6), 4-1. Early in the match, Morigami fell on her left leg, which had a bandage when she started the match.


Also, Andreja Klepac of Slovenia beat the fifth-seeded Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden 6-3, 7-6 (2); Stephanie Dubois of Canada defeated Julie Ditty of the United States 6-2, 6-3; Vania King of the United States beat Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia 6-1, 6-7 (1), 6-3; Jill Craybas of the United States downed Tzipora Obziler of Israel 6-3, 3-6, 6-4; and Marta Domachowska of Poland beat Marina Erakovic of New Zealand 7-6 (2), 6-3.
