Top 4 seeds advance into 2nd round at Pattaya Open

PATTAYA, Thailand (AP) -Third-seeded Vera Dushevina of Russia has beaten Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 6-4, 6-2 to advance into the Pattaya Open's second round.

Dushevina joined top-seeded and defending champion Vera Zvonareva of Russia, second-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany and fourth-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in winning opening matches on Wednesday in Pattaya, Thailand. Dushevina will next face Alberta Brianti of Italy.

Fifth-seeded Sybille Bammer of Austria, the 2007 champion, fought off Marina Erakovic of New Zealand win 7-6 (8), 7-5.


Tatjana Malek of Germany toppled last year's runner-up, sixth-seeded Sania Mirza of India, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, while seventh-seeded Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan retired with an ankle injury while trailing Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-1, 1-0.

In a second-round match, Kazakhstan's Sesil Karatantcheva defeated eighth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany, 6-2, 6-1.
