Dokic leads Australia in Fed Cup win over SKorea

PERTH, Australia (AP) -Fresh from her surprising quarterfinal run at the Australian Open, Jelena Dokic led Australia to a 3-0 win Wednesday over South Korea in the opening round of the Fed Cup Asia-Oceania playoffs.

Dokic, representing Australia at Fed Cup for the first time since 2000, had a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lee Jin-A. Samantha Stosur defeated Lee Ye-ra 6-2, 6-4 and Casey Dellacqua and Rennae Stubbs combined to win the doubles 6-0, 6-2.

"I could have gone to Europe or America but I made it very clear I wanted to play Fed Cup and I would always make myself available again for Australia, just like I did before,'' Dokic said. "There was no way for me to miss this opportunity to play again.''

In the other Group B match, Tamarine Tanasugarn led Thailand to a 3-0 win over Taiwan.

In Group A, India's chances were reduced when No. 27-ranked Sania Mirza was forced to withdraw with a torn abdominal muscle ahead of the matches against New Zealand. The New Zealanders won 3-0, while Indonesia had a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan.

The winning teams will face off to determine which country advances to the World Group II playoffs in April.
