Fabio Fognini reaches Movistar Open quarterfinals

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -Seventh-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy reached the quarterfinals of the Movistar Open on Wednesday by defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina also advanced at the clay-court tournament with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Joao Souza of Brazil.

Defending champion Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil was due to play Rui Machado of Portual later in a second-round match. Sixth-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain was scheduled to play a late match against Brazil's Ricardo Mello.
