Chela advances to second round

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil (AP) -Fifth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina beat Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Da Silva 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the second round of the Brazil Open on Tuesday.

In other first-round matches at the clay-court event, No. 6 seed Tommy Robredo of Spain rallied to beat Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3 and seventh-seeded Potito Starace of Italy overcame Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

Also, Carlos Berlocq of Argentina downed Andre Ghem of Brazil, 6-4, 6-3, Rui Machado of Portugal beat Argentina's Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 6-2, Lukasz Kubot of Poland advanced against Eduardo Schwank of Argentina 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (2) and Brazil's Ricardo Mello cruised past Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 6-4, 6-3.


Nicolas Almargo is the top-seeded player and fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes is No. 2. Both have byes into the second round.
