Rain pushes Serena-Jankovic final to Sunday

NEW YORK - The U.S. Open women’s final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic has been postponed until Sunday because of rain.

It’s the first time since 1974 that the Grand Slam tournament’s women’s championship match was not played on a Saturday.

Williams-Jankovic originally was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, but organizers announced they were shifting it about 3½ hours before that as Tropical Storm Hanna hit the New York area.
