All the extra money is going to the singles finalists, Tennis Australia chief executive Steve Wood said in a statement Saturday. The losing singles finalists will received $706,300.
"This is an investment in the major revenue source for our sport in this country,'' Wood said. "We want to work with the players to further elevate the status of the Australian Open.''
The Australian Open, the first of the year's four tennis majors, starts Jan. 19 in Melbourne.
