Nadal out of Masters Cup

MADRID, Spain - Rafael Nadal, the No. 1-ranked player in the world, has pulled out of the Masters Cup because of injury, the Spaniard said in a statement on his Web site Monday.

“I have decided not to compete at the Masters Cup in Shanghai,” the statement said.

Nadal retired during his Paris Masters quarterfinal against Nikolay Davydenko on Friday because of a knee injury.

The season-ending event starts Sunday.
